Music and Poetry Between French and Alemannic: The Camerata Variabile explores the subtle nuances of translation with poet Jean-Christophe Meyer.
To kick off the “Lost in Translation” season, the Camerata Variabile explores the boundaries between language and music. The Alsatian poet Jean-Christophe Meyer reads his own poems in French and Alemannic, demonstrating how meaning and sound change when the language shifts.
Works by Jean Françaix, Igor Stravinsky, Germaine Tailleferre, Paul de Wailly, and Arnold Bax accompany this poetic journey. The highlight is the world premiere of a new harp quintet by Daniel Glaus with texts by Jean-Christophe Meyer.
A musical dialogue between languages, cultures, and the subtle nuances of translation.
