Singende Steine, Zürich - Camerata Variabile
St. Alban Kreuzgang
Mühlenberg 18, 4051 Basel
Can stones sing? The Camerata Variabile and Stone Alphabet combine singing stones, contemporary compositions, and Swiss folk music to create an extraordinary concert experience.
Stones as musical instruments? What seems unusual today has a history stretching back thousands of years.
Together with the Stone Alphabet ensemble, the Camerata Variabile explores the fascinating world of sound created by lithophones—instruments made of resonant stones. These meet classical chamber music, electronic sounds, and Swiss folk music.
Three new compositions by Mathias Steinauer, Roland Moser, and Fabian Müller expand the musical spectrum. With dulcimer player Nayan Stalder, the journey also takes listeners through the folk music traditions of various Swiss regions, from Appenzell through the Muota Valley to Ticino and Schaffhausen.
An extraordinary concert experience blending ancient sounds, contemporary music, and living tradition.
