Re-Connect · AWAKEN Salon — Paula Fraile at The Core
the Core
Müllheimerstrasse 148, 4057 Basel
Paula Fraile transforms The Core into a light-activated space filled with color and sound. DJ sets by Yoav Naveh and Ramona Wouters. A space to experience, not just an exhibition. June 19–21, Basel.
As the city condenses during Art Basel week, AWAKEN opens a space. Re-Connect is the first station of a three-part trilogy by the painter and muralist Paula Fraile (studio in Leipzig), in co-creation with Solveig Steinmeier. Over the weekend of the summer solstice, The Core in Basel-Kleinhüningen becomes a walk-through, light-activated space of colour, sound and encounter — not an exhibition you visit, but a room you enter.
We open the doors of The Core to enjoy art with time and space, connected. Over three days, Paula Fraile transforms the building, presenting small-format works and site-specific interventions across its three floors. Her work investigates how colour, light and composition can transform the perception of space — working with mixed media (oil, acrylic, collage, fluorescent pigments and light) to activate hidden layers of reality and create immersive atmospheres.
Three days, three movements:
Friday 19 June · 12:00–22:00 · Opening
The public salon evening. The opening of the exhibition, accompanied by an artist talk with Paula Fraile, two live DJ sets by Yoav Naveh and Ramona Wouters, and a bar. Artworks are available throughout. Tickets are 30 CHF — we wanted the door to be open to as many people as possible. Max 50 guests.
Saturday 20 June · 14:00–19:00 · Workshops
"Painting with Paula" — an embodied approach to colour, material and perception — alongside embodied movement with Solveig Steinmeier. The painting workshop unfolds in three phases: a group opening around the question "when was the last time you painted?", a connection with materials, and a final image. Open to anyone who wants to reconnect with painting; materials are included, just wear comfortable clothes. Accompanied by a live DJ set throughout. Max 25 guests.
Sunday 21 June · 14:00–19:00 · Summer Solstice
Paula's painting workshop once more, and the day closes with a solstice ceremony marking the longest day of the year. Throughout the building, her works fill the three floors. Open to anyone who wants to reconnect with painting; materials are included. Accompanied by a live DJ set throughout. Max 25 guests.
Each day can be attended separately. Combination tickets are available, and trilogy passes for all three stations of the AWAKEN Salon (Re-Connect in June, Re-Play in July, Re-Shift in December).
