Offbeat OpenAir: «Soul Meeting» feat. Alex Hendriksen
MUKS - Museum Kultur & Spiel Riehen
Baselstrasse 34, 4125 Riehen
With the "Soul-Meeting," the Offbeat Jazz Festival is bringing the long-standing tradition of open-air jazz concerts back to Riehen.
In the late 1950s, soul-jazz—an evolution of hard bop—began to capture the ears and hearts of jazz fans. “Soul-Meeting”—aka Alex Hendriksen (saxophone), Oliver Pellet (guitar), Benedikt Vonder Mühll (bass), and Lucio Marelli (drums)—bring the tunes from that unforgettable era back to life with their own unique interpretations. The four musicians, well-known throughout Switzerland, pay tribute to soul-jazz legends such as Lou Donaldson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and King Curtis, among others, and pair these with their own distinctive original compositions on their new album “Home Cookin’” (Mons Records, 2026). As part of the Offbeat Open Air, "Home Cookin’," produced in collaboration with Radio SRF2 Kultur, will now be officially launched (with Thomas Lähns on bass): soul jazz at its finest with Offbeat in Riehen under the open sky!
The historic courtyard of the MUKS – Museum Kultur & Spiel provides a wonderful backdrop for the concert, and the pop-up bar at the Landgasthof will serve refreshing drinks to enhance the listening experience.
Anyone interested can enjoy the “Jazz Dinner” at the Landgasthof right next door before the concert (reservations, including concert tickets, available via the Offbeat website). In case of bad weather, the concert will take place in the Landgasthof’s hall.
