Restaurant Schützenhaus
This is where everyone who was anyone gathered in the listed building, where family celebrations were held and where the executives of Basel's major companies met. The Schützenhaus restaurant is one of the region's most traditional restaurants.
The Schützenhaus restaurant has been around since 1564. In its nearly 500 years of existence, the establishment has seen many changes and, at times, turbulent times. During floods in the lower town, for example, the Schützenhaus restaurant provided shelter and served as a storage facility; during the French Revolution, troops found a roof over their heads here.
The E. Gesellschaft der Feuerschützen (Firefighters' Association), founded in 1466 by the Basel guilds, is still active today as a shooting club and maintains the historical traditions of the firefighters. It owns the traditional restaurant, whose cuisine meets the highest culinary standards. In summer, the cozy garden under chestnut trees invites you to linger, and during the cold season, you can dine in the “Schluuch” or the garden hall.
We look forward to your visit – The entire “Schützenhaus” team
