Pisoni fountain
The fountain Pisoni Brunnen on Münsterplatz has an almost Mediterranean feel in summer.
Beschreibung
Fancy a refreshment on the most beautiful square for miles around? Right next to the famous cathedral, the people of Basel happily gather for a game of bowls in the shade of the chestnut trees. This is a place to simply have a good time. A piazza experience Basel-style! The babbling Pisoni Brunnen adds to the southern atmosphere. It dates from 1785 and is named after its constructor Paolo Antonio Pisoni. A fountain with a statue of St. George had previously stood here. However, two statues dedicated to the same saint in the immediate vicinity were one too many – after all, George the dragon slayer can also be admired at the cathedral tower.
Incidentally, dogs also enjoy the Pisoni Brunnen: the low-lying side basin was placed especially for thirsty four-legged companions during the last remodelling in 1937.
