The Bürgergemeinde (Citizens’ Commune) of Basel brings the forest into the city centre: Hidden yet centrally located, a twinkling forest of wonders shines in the townhouse’s courtyard. Here, the enchanting ambience is aglow with lights.
Fresh-smelling fir trees, fairy lights, lanterns and a glowing starry sky transform the courtyard into a beautiful forest landscape. The centre of the enchanting forest is the historic oval fountain, decorated with an arc of fir branches.
In the specially built wooden cabin at the edge of the courtyard, the Waldhaus beider Basel provides refreshments from its Waldhaus-Buvette as soon as it gets dark. The culinary offering includes currywurst, chips, focaccia and pumpkin soup as well as a selection of hot and cold drinks.
The magical courtyard offers various seating areas as well as a covered stand-up bar. If the weather is unfavourable, additional seating can be found in the entrance hall. Weather permitting, lunch, coffee and cake are available from the Stadthauscafé in the magical courtyard throughout the day.
