Chemiemuseum Basel
Beschreibung
Experience the history of the chemical industry at the Chemiemuseum – Basel’s museum of chemistry. The “Arbeitswelt Chemie” exhibition provides insights into the period from 1950 to 1996, when chemistry was the Basel’s leading industry and greatly helped shape the development of the city. Documents, objects, photos and interviews show the production of dyes, agrochemicals, plastics, additives and pharmaceutical products as well as the working conditions at the time. Tens of thousands of people found jobs in chemistry and helped manufacture products for the global market.
A tour of the former production site and a visit to the museum highlight just how important chemistry has been for Basel. Films, audio files, photographs and interviews provide an insight into the jobs, chemistry, environment, health and products of this era.
The Chemiemuseum is located in the “Werk Klybeck 105” building on the fenced-in former chemical site. You can gain access by ringing the bell at the gate between buildings 104 and 105 or by calling +41 78 666 76 23.
