Chemiemuseum Basel
Description
The Basel Chemistry Museum has created an exhibition about working in the chemistry industry, namely “Arbeitswelt Chemie”. Documents, objects and interviews with people who worked in the chemical industry in the 1950s up to 1996 give an insight into a bygone era. Back in those days, the chemical industry was a key industry in Basel and has had a lasting impact on the city. Massive volumes of dyes, agrochemicals, plastics, additives and pharmaceutical products were produced. The chemical industry was a source of employment for tens of thousands of people; entire districts were dedicated to chemical production.
Visit the collection at the former production hall WKL 314 and enjoy a guided tour of the Klybeck factory premises. Films, audio files, photos and original interview passages give visitors an insight into the chemicals, environment, health, hazards, pharmaceutical production, dye production and laboratories from yesteryear.
