Information on the coronavirus (COVID-19)

The hotels in Basel are generally still open. In case of doubt, please contact your accommodation.

Please note the federal government measures of the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH regarding entry to Switzerland.

The following measures shall apply until 19 April 2020:

  • All public and private events are canceled.
  • All establishments open to the public will be closed. This applies to the following: shops and markets, restaurants, bars, clubs, museums, libraries, cinemas, concert venues, theatres, casinos, sports centres, fitness centres, swimming pools, wellness centres/spas, botanical gardens, zoos and wildlife parks.
  • The ban does not apply to the following establishments and events: 
    • Hotels
    • Food stores and other shops, provided they offer food and articles for everyday use (e.g. kiosks and filling station shops)
    • Takeaway establishments, workplace canteens, meal delivery services and restaurants for hotel guests
    • Pharmacies, drugstores and shops selling medical aids and equipment (e.g. eyeglasses and hearing aids)
    • Post offices and sub-post offices
    • Sales outlets of telecommunications providers
    • Banks
    • Filling stations
    • Railway stations and other public transport facilities
    • Transport/vehicle workshops
    • Public administration
    • Healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics and medical practices, and practices and establishments run by health professionals under the terms of federal and cantonal law
  • The SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) canceled extra trips and group trips.
  • All public guided tours are canceled until April 30th. All guided tours for groups are canceled until at least April 19.
