Haydn's Nelson Mass and Hummel's famous Trumpet Concerto are at the centre of the festive programme with trumpeter Simon Höfele, the Basel Madrigalists and CHAARTS.
Event details
Probably the most important trumpet concerto of the Beethoven era was written by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. It is a palatable classic with every opportunity for the trumpet to shine. And that is what Simon Höfele, one of the best trumpeters of our time, does.
Haydn's great masses are celebrating a renaissance. Unique in their richness and artful elaboration, they are on a par with Mozart's great masses. The patron of the arts, Count Niklaus Esterházy, commissioned Haydn to compose massive masses of almost symphonic proportions for his wife's annual name day. Ideal for the Basel Madrigalists and CHAARTS, which describes itself as the «largest string quartet in the world».
