The ensemble Il Fuoco eterno, founded in 2023, invites you to an extraordinary concert that brings the fascinating world of the Viennese court around 1700 back to life. Together with the renowned soprano Maria Ladurner, the ensemble presents an intimate program that brings chamber cantatas and sonatas of that era to life.
A feast for the senses: music at the Viennese court
At this concert, you will discover the chamber music that was played in the magnificent halls and intimate chambers of the Viennese court on special occasions. For the Habsburg rulers, music was not just a mere diversion, but a deep personal passion. As patrons, they competed with other European monarchs for the most talented minds in the world of music: composers, singers, instrumentalists, stage designers and librettists from the most important musical centers in Italy found an ideal platform at their court to develop their art. For festive occasions such as birthdays, coronations and weddings, the court composers created grand operas and serenades that bore witness to the splendor and opulence of these celebrations. On more intimate occasions, such as banquets or academic gatherings, music was played that delighted audiences with its elegance and sophistication in smaller ensembles - Italian cantatas were particularly popular.
Love in all its facets
No theme permeates humanity as much as love, and here too it was the focus of the musical performances. However, it was not always happy, fulfilled love that was sung about - the cantatas often revolved around longing, around unfulfilled desire. Sometimes in a frivolous, playful tone, sometimes in deep seriousness, these compositions reflect all the nuances of the human heart. Particularly in the learned circles where high society met, love stories and questions of etiquette mingled in an intellectual game that was as profound as it was light-footed.
This concert offers a unique opportunity to experience touching works by composers such as Antonio Maria Bononcini, Attilio Ariosti and Antonio Caldara, which have lain dormant in the archives for centuries. You can look forward to a program that brings the musical cosmos of the Viennese court around 1700 to life with great care and passion. The combination of historically informed performance practice and the vocal brilliance of Maria Ladurner makes this evening a special experience. Il Fuoco eterno will transport you to a time when music played a central role in the lives of the powerful - and still touches our hearts today.
