Outdoor excursion “Forest Air. Ecology & Conifers” - IN GERMAN
Veranstaltungsdetails
The excursion takes place within the context of the exhibition “Northern Lights”. Inspired by landscape paintings of the boreal forests of Scandinavia and Canada, we will explore the indigenous flora and fauna and breathe in regenerating forest air.
As a site of our planet’s eventful cultural and natural history, the forest is all at once habitat, economic resource and recreation area. What about Basel’s coniferous and broadleaf trees? How does our region’s woodland differ from the taiga – the boreal forest ecosystem of the North?
Walking along Bettingen’s forest paths with forestry expert Guido Bader and an art educator from the Fondation Beyeler, we will explore species of conifers such as Douglas firs, spruces, firs and pines, as well as our native birch, getting to know their characteristics. We will also gain much valuable knowledge about the preservation of biodiversity and the resilience of different tree types in times of climate change.
Guido Bader trained as a forestry engineer (ETH) and has been in charge of the Canton of Basel-Stadt’s forests and woodlands within the Basel Forest Office for 23 years.
Duration: ca. 2.5 h
Tickets: CHF 0.- Participation only possible with a free online ticket!
Meeting point: 2.00pm Bus station St. Chrischona (Bus 32), then onward by foot. The excursion does not take place at the museum!
Participants should bring sturdy footwear and protection against the rain, as well as water and snacks. The excursion will take place in all weather conditions (except in the event of severe weather).
