Veranstaltungsdetails
Konomi: It's time again for the festival of Japanese flavours in Basel!
From 30 March to 5 April 2025, Basel will take you on a sensory journey to Japan for the third time at various locations. Street food, Japanese cocktails, cosy tea parties, short films, traditional crafts, tastings and workshops: At Konomi, the Japanese way of life meets the Swiss way of life.
Konomi, the festival of Japanese flavours, is coming to Basel for the third time: from Sunday, 30 March to Saturday, 5 April 2025, various Japanese addresses, cocktail bars and restaurants in the city on the Rhine invite you to enjoy a delightful experience.
The diverse sensory journey will not only delight the palate, but also provide you with plenty of brain food and opportunities to learn new things.
This year, for example, Konomi is teaming up with the largest short film festival in Asia: Stadtkino Basel is showing four exceptional short films from the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, which primarily revolve around the topic of food. While you gain an insight into Japanese culture, etiquette and philosophy of life, you can also enjoy the right sake to accompany the film, if required.
On the opening Sunday, the concoctions in the glass look even more creative: The BaselBarTender association is organising a small Japanese-inspired cocktail battle at Zum Kuss. And in Ullrich's Konomi room on Laufenstrasse, you can have yourself professionally dressed in a kimono, among other things.
Other highlights at 2025? Attractions in an old safe room; a small street food festival; a Japanese tea house with Japanese desserts; various tastings of Japanese waters; a choir performance by the Japanese School Basel; tea-themed workshops and an exclusive Cha-Kaiseki; live tattoos; Japanese architecture and art; an insight into the Jazz-Kissa and a (hopefully wild) closing party.
You can find the complete programme overview on the Konomi website (updated regularly).
New: Merch & Foodtrucks
The idea of Konomi is a decentralised affair of the heart of many participants. The festival was founded by Rebekka Salzmann, the former manager of the missing cocktail bar Angels' Share on Basel's Feldbergstrasse, and Robert Schröter, a renowned bartender who has lived in Japan and founded the Cocktail Academy in his home city of Berlin. Konomi is now run by a small group of Swiss and Japanese women and pleasure-loving enthusiasts.
"I'm particularly looking forward to our first Konomi shirts and the cooperation with Tokyo Short Shorts, the largest short film festival in Asia. We are bringing their films to the city cinema on two evenings! Another highlight will certainly be the Sunday opening festival with Japanese food trucks full of delicacies and a cultural programme in front of our Zum Kuss location in De-Wette Park," says Robert with anticipation.
See you soon, Sailor Moon!
