After James Reese Europe brought ragtime and big band to Europe in 1918, the new style inspired not only composers of light music, but also the work of composers like Shostakovich, Krenek or Stravinsky.

An important testimony to the music of that period were vocal ensembles such as the American Revelers or the Comedian Harmonists in Germany.
