Jean Tinguely (22 May 1925-30 August 1991) was one of Switzerland's best-known artists - a visionary who became famous worldwide with his moving machine artworks. This tour shows how the young decorator from Basel became an international artist and the traces he left behind in Basel - in places such as the Tinguely fountain, Münsterplatz and Marktplatz.
Despite his international renown, Tinguely remained closely associated with Basel, not only through the famous Tinguely fountain, officially known as the Fasnacht Fountain, but also through his friendship with Basel patrons and above all through his love of Carnival in Basel. He conducted spectacular activities with his clique, the Kuttlebutzer, for whom he organised entire carnival processions. In 1985, he was named an "Ehrespalebärglemer" and is thus immortalised on Basel's "Walk of Fame".
