Starting in the autumn, the Fondation Beyeler will be showing the expansive installation Palimpsest by the internationally renowned Colombian artist Doris Salcedo. Born in Bogotá in 1958, Salcedo explores the effects of violence and exclusion in her native Colombia as well as in other regions of the world in objects, sculptures and large site-specific interventions. In Palimpsest, Salcedo dedicates herself to fugitives who have drowned in the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean in search of a better life in Europe over the last twenty years. Palimpsest will be on display at the Fondation Beyeler until September 2023, culminating in a large-scale exhibition by the artist in summer 2023.
