Fondation Beyeler
Baselstrasse 101, 4125 Riehen
Peter Fischli in conversation with Cara Manes
Veranstaltungsdetails
Originally conceived in 1990 for the Römerbrücke combined heat and power plant in Saarbrücken, Snowman by Fischli/Weiss looks back on a 30-year history that is also entwined with the development of electricity generation. Realized in its present form in 2016, Snowman has stood in the Fondation Beyeler gardens since 2020 as the museum’s first solar-powered work of sculpture. The story of Snowman has now been recorded in a new artist’s book by Peter Fischli. As part of the book presentation, Peter Fischli talks to Cara Manes, Associate Curator for Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art.
Peter Fischli and David Weiss are among the most important artists of the 20th century. The collaboration between Swiss artists Peter Fischli (*1952) and David Weiss (1946–2012) lasted more than three decades. Their works, executed in a wide range of media, display a pronounced sense of humour, a love of poetry and a fascination with the everyday. In 2016, Fischli/Weiss were represented at the Fondation Beyeler in the exhibition “Alexander Calder & Fischli/Weiss”.
The event will be held in English. Admission to the museum prior to the event is included in the ticket.
