The Museum der Kulturen Basel is Switzerland’s largest ethnological museum and one of the most eminent of its kind in Europe, enjoying an international reputation for its collection of more than 340,000 pieces.
Beschreibung
The exhibitions, which cover contemporary and everyday subjects, convey cultural similarities and differences, thereby promoting understanding of both one’s own and other cultures. Visitors are therefore able to see the world through different eyes.
Public guided tours, which the museum offers every Sunday, delve deeper into the theme of a current exhibition or highlight aspects that link all the exhibitions.
Carnival in Basel
The museum presents a colourful cross section of the world-famous Carnival in Basel – from costumes and lanterns to masks and musical instruments to historical documents – in its historical rooms. A multimedia station provides vivid insights into the hustle and bustle of the carnival. > Special opening hours: Thursday to Saturday: 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm, Sunday: 11.00 am to 5.00 pm
