The Restaurant Safran Zunft in the centre of the Old Town is characterised by an incomparable, historic, turn-of-the-century ambience. Its roots stretch back to the medieval spice traders’ guild, which still has strong connections to the restaurant. Spices still play a major role in the fresh, regional cuisine served at the restaurant. The historic guildhall (Zunftsaal) is an ideal venue for formal gala dinners, cocktail parties and receptions for up to 500 people.
The Safran Zunft restaurant, in the heart of Basel’s Old Town, was awarded "Historical Restaurant 2008" by the ICOMOS Foundation.
