Francisco de Goya (1746 – 1828) – one of the last great court painters in Europe and the first pioneer of modern art. He painted impressive portraits and created mysterious visual worlds. His paintings depict saints and criminals, witches and demons, dreams and nightmares. From May 2020, Fondation Beyeler will devote one of the biggest exhibitions outside Spain to him. It comprises over 70 paintings, drawings and prints from both public and private collections.
