The exhibition gives an overview of Basel’s history from early human traces to the present day. Around ninety exhibits - including the most important testimonies to the city’s history - guide visitors through 100,000 years of Basel history. Six film spots open up a historical perspective on contemporary themes, such as the relationship between the city and the canton, migration and integration, the importance of the pharmaceutical industry and the way we deal with space and nature. A large interactive installation combines plans, images and facts on urban development. The overview thus focuses not only on political and economic developments, but also on topics such as Basel’s relationship to the world, religious diversity and the development of urban society.
