Museum der Kulturen Basel

The Museum der Kulturen Basel ranks among the leading ethnographic museums in Europe. The impressive collections (320,000 objects) including artefacts of world renown reflect the vast and varied scope of human ways of life.

In addition to two permanent exhibitions, the museum stages three to five special shows every year – an inspiring opportunity to question our views of the «Other», gain new insights, reflect on attitudes and reassess our own concept of «Self».

Grasping Anthropology

Every first Wednesday of the month the museum organizes a forum to address a specific anthropological topic, discuss current social issues with visitors or simply tell stories from a new perspective, thereby revealing unexpected overlaps with our own daily life.

Basel Carnival. Exhibition

The Basel Carnival is a boundless feast of sounds, colours, dreams and fantasies, but also of biting critique and persiflage. > Special opening hours: Thu – Sat 13.00 – 17.00, Sun 11.00 – 17.00.

Take advantage of your BaselCard and get a 50% discount on your museum visit. The free guest card is included in every overnight stay and will be given to you at check-in.
