Museum der Kulturen Basel
The Museum der Kulturen Basel ranks among the leading ethnographic museums in Europe. The impressive collections (320,000 objects) including artefacts of world renown reflect the vast and varied scope of human ways of life.
The Museum der Kulturen (Museum of Cultures) in Basel shows its collection several times a year. Three permanent and various special exhibitions are concerned with the here and now. They provide various changes of perspective and allow visitors to see the world from a different angle, where the familiar all of a sudden takes on a new meaning.
Grasping Anthropology
Every first Wednesday of the month the museum organizes a forum to address a specific anthropological topic, discuss current social issues with visitors or simply tell stories from a new perspective, thereby revealing unexpected overlaps with our own daily life.
Basel Carnival. Exhibition
The Basel Carnival is a boundless feast of sounds, colours, dreams and fantasies, but also of biting critique and persiflage. > Special opening hours: Thu – Sat 13.00 – 17.00, Sun 11.00 – 17.00.
