Town Hall - the seat of government
Buildings & churches
Basel's Town Hall is a combination of fine architecture, art and politics from five centuries. The splendid building on Marktplatz is still the seat of government of the canton of Basel-City today. On our tour through the rooms of the canton's representative parliament and of the Governing Council, we will inform you of the political history of the city and the current situation within the City-canton.
This tour is available from 7 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays. The availability of the premises is on request.
Please note: the Grand Council Chamber is undergoing refurbishment from 30 June to 10 September 2023, so there may be restrictions in place in and around the chamber, public gallery and cloakroom.
