ARTour – digital art and augmented reality

Basel Highlights

Description

On this 75-minute tour, you’ll track down digital artworks that are spread all around the city. Augmented reality (AR) technology brings the digital artworks to life – both visually and audibly – in real spaces. From Münsterplatz to Basel Old Town to Totentanz – huge floating mushrooms, colourfully illuminated jellyfish that react to your singing and shapes floating in the sky bring the city to new life. You’ll be introduced to artworks by contemporary artists and learn more about the background to them. You can even download your own 3D give-away artwork or take a selfie among the sonorous and floating virtual shapes.

On the tour, you use your own smartphone and the ARTour app, which you can download via the link below before you start. iOS and Android versions of the app are available for free from the store. Once you’ve opened the app, it also works without an internet connection.

The ARTour was developed as an art project by Roche – as part of its 125th anniversary celebrations – together with the HEK (House of Electronic Arts) in Basel and Basel Tourism. The artworks – developed especially for the ARTour by national and international artists – highlight the theme of “Celebrate Life” from different perspectives.

The tour is suitable for children aged six or above.
