The Spalentor and the city fortifications of the 14th century

To this day the Vorstadtgesellschaft zur Krähe still holds its meetings high in the tower of the Spalentor. Steep staircases with big steps have to be climbed before one can enjoy the fine view of the roofs of Basel's old town and the heights of the Jura, Black Forest and Vosges. A short rest on each floor provides an opportunity to learn about the defensive fortifications and the history of their construction.
