Between the Marktplatz and the synagogue in the Eulerstrasse we come across many traces of Jewish life from the Middle Ages to the present day. An important link with a major event in Jewish history is the memory of Theodor Herzl, who launched the idea of a Jewish state in Basel in 1897.
