A stroll through the Alte Vorstadt to the St. Johanntor

The way from the Totentanz to the St. Johanntor provides a living picture of the city's development. The street between the former inner gate and the surviving outer gate constructed in 1398 is bordered by churches and former monasteries. Traces and reminders of other important figures can also be found in this historical street: among others, Hans Holbein the Younger, the Petri family of printers, Isaac Iselin, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe or King Gustav of Sweden.
