Built between 2000 and 2002 and designed by leading architects Von Herzog & De Meuron, it is neither a museum, nor a traditional warehouse.
At this venue, every single work, object and installation of the extensive collection is on permanent display. There is also an architecturally unusual art and study room, where the collection becomes the starting point for creativity and activity, for learning and pleasure.
Schaulager houses the collection of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation and is Basel’s newest, highly-regarded cultural institution.
