Through Basel using high-tech

In Basel, a completely new dimension has been added to the guided tours of the city: the iGuide. The iGuide provides an audiovisual accompaniment to five tours through the historical Old Town of Basel.
The principle of the tours is extremely simple. You select one of the five circuits which are signposted throughout the city. The individual routes bear the names of world-famous Basel personalities. It is easy to follow the signposts which bear an image of the head of the person the route is named after. Each circuit also has its own colour.

Finally, on the mini-computer, hundreds of pictures add an almost unprecedented new dimension to the guided tour. For the purpose of orientation, the places of interest have first been photographed. But that is not all. The individual views and detailed pictures show them from angles that are frequently unseen or go unnoticed. In addition, historical pictures and information bring Basel's history and traditions to life and enable the visitor to experience them for themselves.

The new guide is an individual tour at low cost. The mini-computer is supplied together with five maps that show the numbered places of interest. The stations can be selected according to the wishes of the user. This means they are no longer tied to a group or a conventional individual guided tour. It is also possible to switch from one route to another just as one pleases. If the tourist's feet start to ache, they can simply sit down in a café and enjoy more stations without having to walk any further since the guide also operates as a self-contained audiovisual medium.

The audiovisual tours of the Old Town can be booked at the Basel Tourismus tourist information office in the Stadtcasino on the Barfüsserplatz. The rental for the iGuide is CHF 15.00 for four hours and CHF 22.00 for a whole day.
