Where enthusiasm for art is a culture

The diversity of Basel’s theatres is breathtaking: The Basel Theatre, Switzerland’s largest three-tier theatre, offers top-rate productions in dance, opera and plays, with a wide repertoire. From numerous small theatres, to the Basel Musical Theatre and the Volksbühnen, you will find that Basel has virtually everything to move the cultural heart.

The city on the Rhine also offers an extremely diverse programme of concerts. Whether classical or rock and pop: Basel offers something to suit every taste. A highpoint in the musical late autumn is the annual music festival AVO Session Basel, with performances by world stars such as Elton John and Herbie Hancock.

And for the art world, the highlight event is Art Basel. Each year in June, the art fair draws thousands of art collectors and art lovers to the bend in the Rhine.
